Shawn Mendes‘ sexuality has been a source of speculation for years on social media, and despite having addressed it already, telling his fans that he is indeed straight, the ‘In My Blood’ singer is talking about it again in a new interview with Rolling Stone.
It was YouTube comments he read last Christmas that made him realize “he’d had enough.” “I thought, ‘You f**king guys are so lucky I’m not actually gay and terrified of coming out,’ That’s something that kills people. That’s how sensitive it is. Do you like the songs? Do you like me? Who cares if I’m gay?”

In response, the 20-year-old singer took to Snapchat. “I noticed a lot of people were saying I gave them a ‘gay vibe,’ ” he said. “First of all, I’m not gay. Second of all, it shouldn’t make a difference if I was or wasn’t.”
“Maybe I am a little more feminine — but that’s the way it is. That’s why I am me.”
Mendes admitted that he’d “woke up in a cold sweat” and “felt sick” because of a video Taylor Swift had posted on her Instagram that showed her adorning him with eye makeup. And even though she’d had his permission to do it, Mendes revealed, “I was like, ‘F**k, why did I let her post that?’ I just fed the fire that I’m terrified of.”
“Even though in my heart I know that it’s not a bad thing,” he continued. “There’s still a piece of me that thinks that. And I hate that side of me.”
