The entire world is still coming down from Royal Wedding fever after watching Prince Harry marry Meghan Markle on Saturday. And while that’s great, how about we take a second to focus on queer romance?
Prince & Knight by Daniel Haack is the queer-friendly storybook you always wished for as a child. It puts a gay twist on the idea of traditional fairy tales and tells the story of “a noble prince and a brave knight [who] come together to defeat a terrible monster and in the process find true love in a most unexpected place.
The story is the first in a series of children’s books from GLAAD and Bonnier Publishing USA, aimed at “integrating and elevating positive LGBTQ representation in children’s literature.” The series will consist of four titles each year in a variety of genres for children up to the age of 14.
In a statement, Sarah Kate Ellis, president and CEO, GLAAD, said, “GLAAD is committed to advancing positive representation of LGBTQ lives, experiences and stories at every stage of our lives, and books are a natural progression to encourage awareness, kindness, and acceptance at an early age.”
If you’re already anticipating the next installment in the series, you can look forward to Jack (Not Jackie) by Erica Silverman, in which “big sister Susan learns to understand and accept that her younger sibling identifies as ‘Jack’ rather than ‘Jackie.'”
